Time flies and the new season 2025-26 is about to start. We hope you can join us for a guided tour of the wonders of the night sky. Booking a visit could not be easier. Just click on the Link above (Book A Visit) and provide some basic details. We will then contact you endevour to ensure you can visit on a night with clear skies.
We began our season as we usually do with groups of evening walking tours stopping in at the end of September. Unfortunately on this occasion the clouds were thick and we were not able to use the main telescope. Some of the group however did manage an impromptue daytime visit for a view of the Sun through our Solar Telescope.
Based in the south of Scotland. Moffat Community Observatory was officially opened to the public in 2021. For the opening ceremony we were delighted to welcome Professor of Astrophysics and Astronomer Royal for Scotland Catherine Heymans to join us.
Our main goal is to inspire as many people as we can to engage with Astronomy. To learn about our planets place in the wider universe and bring people together to appreciate the beauty of the night sky, whether they be local to Moffat or from all parts of the UK and beyond.
We aim to to do this by providing free access to otherwise expensive astronomy equipment, resources and expertise. The access and expertise is provided by our small team of dedicated volunteers from Moffat Astronomy Club. Members of Moffat Astronomy Club are entitled to privileged access to Moffat Community Observatory. You can join Moffat Astronomy Club here. To find out more about our people, equipment, events and how to book a visit. Please have a tour of our website.
Moffat Community Observatory is free to visit there is no obligation to contribute. We cannot however continue to provide our services without ongoing support for running costs and maintenance. So if you can afford to donate to help keep this amazing resource open then please help by clicking on one of our Make A Donation buttons. Thank you for your support.
